On February 8, 2025, Chongqing held the 2025 Municipal Commerce (China-Singapore Connectivity Initiative) Work Conference.
Over the past year, in the face of complex domestic and international challenges, the city’s commerce system has followed the directives of the municipal Party committee, the municipal government, and the Ministry of Commerce. By focusing on stabilizing growth, mitigating risks, driving reform breakthroughs, and supporting enterprises and the public, Chongqing has advanced comprehensive reforms, expanded high-level openness, boosted consumption, and taken all possible measures to stabilize foreign trade and investment. These efforts have ensured stable and sustained growth in the commerce sector, contributing to the city’s high-quality socio-economic development and the broader modernization of Chongqing.
While the overall landscape of commerce development remains complex, it is also important to recognize the opportunities presented by strengthened national policy support, the accelerated release of reform dividends, and the accumulated momentum of Chongqing’s stable reform and development. The steady progress in building a modernized Chongqing provides significant opportunities for the city’s commerce sector.
2025 marks the final year of the 14th Five-Year Plan and a critical phase for deepening the modernization of Chongqing. The commerce system must maintain confidence and determination, prioritize action, and push forward with ambition. Efforts will focus on building an international consumption hub, a west-south international economic cooperation center, and a leading inland international cooperation zone, with a strong emphasis on implementing the "6655" action plan for high-quality commerce development. The conference called for a solid start in 2025 to achieve an early breakthrough.
