Suez in China

In China, Suez has a long history, having made positive contributions to the country's infrastructure development for nearly half a century. The group has over 6,500 employees in 30 cities across China and has built more than 400 water and wastewater treatment plants. The group collaborates with local partners to provide water and solid waste management services for over 25 million people and 20 industrial parks. In China, Suez is the only foreign company to have been ranked among the top ten most influential companies in the Chinese water industry for 21 consecutive years. This highlights Suez’s exceptional ability to establish solid partnerships in China.
China is one of Suez’s most important markets. For nearly 50 years, we have consistently provided water and solid waste management services in China, offering resilient and innovative solutions. We collaborate with clients to create value throughout the entire lifecycle of their assets and services, driving their ecological transformation. As one of the first foreign companies to enter the Chinese water market, our scope of business continues to expand, from infrastructure construction to water management, solid waste management, industrial parks, and smart environmental solutions, serving municipal and industrial clients in over 30 major cities and regions in China.

Suez in Chongqing
The Chongqing Municipal Government has shown remarkable foresight, actively promoting the marketisation of the municipal water industry. Since 2002, Suez has established a partnership with Chongqing, paving the way for long-term collaboration and helping the Chongqing government achieve its ambitious environmental goals. Currently, Suez’s total investment in Chongqing exceeds 4 billion CNY. The cooperation between Suez Group and Chongqing has become a model of Sino-foreign cooperation in the form of PPP in China's water industry.
For over 20 years, Suez, together with the Chongqing Municipal Government and local partners, has achieved significant results, generating substantial social and economic benefits. Starting from a relatively small drinking water supply project to wastewater treatment and environmental services for industrial parks, and moving from project cooperation to strategic collaboration, Suez has achieved breakthrough results, becoming a successful example of win-win cooperation between Chinese and foreign companies in the Chinese water market. To date, Suez Group's investment in Chongqing has exceeded 4 billion CNY. Chongqing is one of Suez's most important cities in China, and the success of cooperation with Chongqing has provided valuable experience for Suez to expand its business in other cities in China.

How do you evaluate the gains from Suez Group's investment cooperation with Chongqing?

Su Binglan: Over the years, Suez has built a profound cooperative friendship with Chongqing, based on mutual trust and collaboration. In the past 20 years, we have made positive contributions to Chongqing’s development, from ensuring stable water supply and introducing advanced wastewater treatment technologies to pioneering waste-to-energy solutions. Chongqing is one of our most important investment locations in China. Our firm belief in this city reflects our commitment to long-term partnerships. Our cooperation with Chongqing is not only strategically significant but also plays a deep role in social transformation. The city’s positive attitude towards green development is admirable, and it is this concept that has solidified Suez Group’s position in the global investment strategy. We are honoured to support Chongqing’s ecological transformation together with the Chongqing Municipal Government and local partners.

In which areas will Suez further promote cooperation with Chongqing in the future?

Su Binglan: Suez Group has always strengthened and will continue to strengthen cooperation with Chongqing to support its ecological transformation. Our aim is to provide comprehensive solutions, including water supply, wastewater treatment, and waste-to-resource management. Our goal is to promote Chongqing’s economic growth and sustainable environmental development.
